اكتشاف كوكب واعد للحياة خارج المجموعة الشمسية

أعلن فريق من العلماء عن اكتشاف كوكب جديد خارج المجموعة الشمسية يحمل مواصفات قد تجعله مرشحا مثاليا للبحث عن حياة خارج الأرض.

وهذا الكوكب، الذي أطلق عليه اسم 'GJ 251 c'، يبعد عنا أقل من 20 سنة ضوئية فقط، ويصنف ضمن فئة 'الأرض الفائقة'، وهي كواكب صخرية تشبه كوكبنا لكنها أكبر حجما، ما يجعلها الهدف الأمثل للباحثين عن حياة خارج اﻷرض.

وعلى الرغم من أن العلماء لا يستطيعون بعد رؤية الكوكب مباشرة أو تأكيد وجود غلاف جوي أو حياة عليه، إلا أنهم يعتبرونه مرشحا واعدا للغاية للدراسات المستقبلية.

ويعلق سوفرات ماهاديفان من جامعة بن ستيت، أحد المشاركين في البحث: 'لقد حققنا اكتشافا مثيرا، لكن الرحلة ما تزال في بدايتها.

وهناك الكثير لنتعلمه عن هذا الكوكب، ونأمل أن تمكننا التلسكوبات المستقبلية من دراسته بشكل مباشر'.

وفي البداية، كان العلماء يدرسون كوكبا آخر في النظام نفسه يعرف باسم GJ 251 b، لكن تحليلا أعمق كشف وجود كوكب إضافي أكبر حجما في هذا النظام الشمسي، تم التأكد لاحقا من وجوده وهو الكوكب الجديد GJ 251 c.
