The Special Envoy of United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, concluded a week-long round of meetings with a group of Yemenis, regional and international stakeholders in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Sultanate of Oman.
A statement issued by United Nations mission stated that this comes within the framework of Mr. Griffiths’ endeavor to reach nationwide ceasefire, with the aim of reducing the risks that threaten the lives of civilians in Yemen. It added, “Mr. Griffiths continues his efforts to lift the restrictions imposed on the ports of Hodeidah and to open Sana’a Airport to alleviate the deteriorating humanitarian situation.”
Griffiths said the debate on de-escalating the humanitarian situation has continued for over year, and the international community has been fully supportive in the meantime. He regretted that the results are not what we would like them to be in terms of reaching agreement at the same time, the war has continued unabated and has caused immense suffering to civilians.
He continued, “I will continue to interact with the parties to the conflict and all concerned parties, actors and stakeholders to give them opportunities to find common grounds to help advance peace efforts.”
It is noteworthy that Al-Mayadeen sources revealed, on Monday, that international and regional moving to end Yemeni crisis and stop the war, as the international consultations are looking at alternative formula for Resolution 2216, which served as an excuse for the Saudi war against Yemen.
